New Snake Eyes Movie Trailer 2 Reveal

The new Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins trailer is finally here, giving fans a look at the upcoming reboot. Snake Eyes stars Crazy Rich Asians lead Henry Golding as the eponymous ninja commando, with a supporting cast that includes Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Úrsula Corberó as Baroness, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Iko Uwais as Hard Master, Peter Mensah as Blind Master, and Takehiro Hira as Kenta. Snake Eyes releases in theaters on July 23.

After the poor critical reactions to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the franchise took a bit of a break from live-action ventures on the big screen. Snake Eyes will reboot the G.I. Joe movies with an origin story for one of the franchise's most popular characters. While other classic characters from the original cartoon will be featured in the film, the story will focus primarily on Snake Eyes himself, his relationship with friend/rival/enemy Storm Shadow, and how he first became involved in the battle against Cobra.

That story is on full display in Paramount Pictures' new trailer for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. The footage is packed with tense action sequences, classic friends and foes, and some new reveals for Snake Eyes’ revitalized origin story. There's even a look at the ninja's new live-action combat suit at the very end, which looks like a great adaptation of his old cartoon look. Check out the Snake Eyes trailer below.

The complicated relationship between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow has always been central to both characters, and the new trailer spends a good deal of time establishing their unique bond and history with each other. Storm Shadow’s allegiances have consistently shifted with each new G.I. Joe story, so it should be interesting to see if he ends up joining Cobra in the movie, and why. A climactic Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow duel seems inevitable though, so it’s likely that something will set the two at odds.

While Cobra appears in the trailer, primarily represented by the Baroness, it’s not entirely clear what their mission is, or how they’ll be set at odds with Snake Eyes. If the movie is truly aiming to set up a new G.I. Joe film franchise, it would do well to pepper in some setup for other villains like Cobra Commander. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins releases on July 23.
