Ellen DeGeneres offers fans the chance to co-host her show as she donates $1 million to coronavirus relief.
Ellen DeGeneres has shown just how kind she is feeling as she made a huge new donation to Leonardo DiCaprio’s efforts to raise money during the coronavirus pandemic. The host not only made a $1 million (£798,000) donation to the All In challenge, the comedian is also giving one lucky fan the chance to join her as a co-host on The Ellen Degeneres Show. Anyone that makes a donation to their challenge, of whatever amount they can afford, will be given the chance to win (and all the bragging rights that come with hosting alongside Ellen). Accepting the challenge, Ellen said on her show: ‘I love a challenge so here’s what I’m offering. Someone who donates at least $25 (£19) will get to chance to be my co-host for a show.
‘You’ll spend the day in the studio, learn how we produce it… You’ll get to be next to me when I do the monologue and join me as I interview celebrity guests.’ She then joked: ‘And finally, Andy will drive you home.’
The initiative aims to raise $100 million (£79,800,000) for non-profit organizations, helping provide food to those in need during the coronavirus crisis, including Meals on Wheels, No Kid Hungry, America’s Food Fund, Feeding America, and World Central Kitchen. And Ellen admitted the seeing clips of those queuing for food inspired her and wife Portia De Rossi to make their generous $1 million donation. Fans could also win the chance to appear alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in a film if they donate money to coronavirus efforts.
Ellen had been nominated by her pal Leonardo DiCaprio, who chose to team up with Robert DeNiro to offer a fan the chance to bag a walk-on role in their next movie, Killers of the Flower Moon, which will also be directed by Martin Scorsese. And Ellen revealed her nominations as she stated: ‘I nominate Justin Timberlake and Laura Dern to join the challenge because I love them and I know they wanna help.’
